Concerns were raised during the meeting about the lack of transparency surrounding the sudden fee imposition, especially given the short notice provided.
Norwalk Senior Center board members Susan Mais and Mark Magnusen defended the fee, citing the center’s significant financial deficit as the primary reason for its implementation.
They clarified that the pickleball fee is just one measure being considered to address the financial challenges.
Critics argue that the $60 monthly fee is exorbitant, particularly considering the limited facilities available, with only one indoor court in the gym.
Seniors already pay a $25 annual membership fee, making the additional monthly charge burdensome, especially for those on fixed incomes.
Pickleball, a beloved activity at the Norwalk Senior Center, has cultivated a strong sense of community among its players, catering to individuals of all skill levels.
