What are the Updated Guidelines of Pickleball and Tennis Court

Pickleball is rapidly becoming one of the most popular sports in the country.

As its popularity grows, Fancyburg and Thompson Parks have become popular spots to play, offering tennis courts lined for pickleball and equipped with portable pickleball nets.

Due to the rising demand for both pickleball and tennis, our hard-surface tennis courts have seen an increase in usage. To enhance the experience, we have introduced a new racket reservation system that will make it easier to plan your game time.

To reserve a court, use the paddle rack system by placing your paddle in the furthest available spot to the left. The paddle positioned at the very left will be the next in line to play.

This simple system provides a fair and organized way to ensure everyone gets a turn on the court.

The City offers four tennis courts at both parks, with eight pickleball courts marked on them, as well as four portable pickleball net systems on wheels.

These courts are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis and are available year-round from dawn to dusk for both tennis and pickleball players.

To promote fair use of the courts, the City requests that players follow these rules :

  • Limit your play to 90 minutes if others are waiting.
  • If all courts are in use, place your racket or paddle in the paddle rack (as per the instructions below) to indicate you wish to play next.
  • Tennis is primarily played on the east side of the Thompson courts and the south side of the Fancyburg courts, while pickleball is primarily played on the west side of the Thompson courts and the north side of the Fancyburg courts, unless the courts are fully occupied.
  • Minimize moving the City’s pickleball net systems, and do so carefully to avoid damaging the courts.
  • When playing pickleball, try to use one side of a tennis court and use the available pickleball net systems to maximize court space, allowing others to play tennis on the full court.
  • Parks & Rec programs have priority when using the courts. You can check the program reservations here.
  • Private lessons for a fee are prohibited unless written approval is obtained from the City of Upper Arlington.
  • Play at your own risk.

Racket/Paddle Rack Instructions :

  • Waiting players should place their paddle or racket in the first available slot on the paddle rack from left to right, just to the right of the sliding dial.
  • The paddle/racket in the slot directly to the right of the dial is next in line to play. Move the dial to the right as each paddle/racket is removed. When the paddle/racket in the far-right slot is removed, slide the dial back to the far left, and the cycle starts again.

These guidelines ensure everyone has a fair and enjoyable experience at our tennis and pickleball courts.
