New $4.3M Mississauga tennis and pickleball facility expected to open later this year

This is joyful news that New $4.3M Mississauga tennis and pickleball facility expected to open later this year.

According to the city, tennis and pickleball enthusiasts in Mississauga can look forward to a new facility by the end of this year.

Currently under construction, the $4.3-million facility located in the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Mattamy Sports Park will boast six courts and an air dome, enabling year-round play.

Is any collaboration in this Project

This project, a collaboration between the city, Premier Racquet Clubs, Tennis Canada, and Rogers Communications, aims to offer an additional 400 court hours per week in Mississauga during the winter season. Additionally, it’s anticipated to host various provincial, national, and international events.

As of 2022, Mississauga featured 150 public outdoor tennis courts and 22 indoor courts, mostly managed by private and membership-based organizations.

Initially approved in February 2021, the all-season facility at Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Mattamy Sports Park was slated for completion by the fall of 2023, as per Mississauga council.

However, the anticipated opening is now expected to be around a year later.

In response to inquiries about the delay, City of Mississauga spokesperson Irene McCutcheon cited various factors such as contract negotiations, planning processes, and operational considerations as contributing to the project’s timeline shift.

The total cost of $4.3 million for the facility is being shared between Premier Racquet Clubs and the city. Premier Racquet Clubs is contributing $2.65 million, with the remaining $1.66 million covered by the city.
