In Thunder Bay (Canada) a vibrant pickleball tournament took place last Saturday, drawing a significantly larger crowd compared to its previous edition.
Pickleball, hailed as Thunder Bay’s swiftest growing sport, saw an impressive turnout at the Easter Tournament hosted by the local club, boasting over 100 enthusiastic players.
Jason Horychuk, Head Pro of T.Bay Pickleball Club, expressed his astonishment, stating, “It’s actually unbelievable. It’s called the Easter Battle. First time that we’ve ever had an Easter tournament.”
He continued, “We have 110 people participating. We were expecting around 50 or 60 for the weekend, but we’re accommodating 110 on both Friday and Saturday, making it a significant tournament.”
Participants were categorized based on their skill levels, ranging from novice to advanced.
Horychuk emphasized the joy of witnessing numerous individuals embracing the sport, stating, “The new players are coming out, we’re running clinics and lessons, they’re getting challenged by coming into tournaments, giving it a shot.
There’s lots of pairings, lots of family pairings, lots of couples. We have youth participation, with all generations playing today.”
For those interested in future tournaments, Horychuk encouraged visiting the club’s website for updates.
